Wellness Program
Take that much-needed break to improve your overall wellness and join us for one of the following activities. APCO has tailored these to provide you with a well-rounded program on the various aspects of health, including physical activity, and stress management.
There is no additional cost to participate.
5K Run/Walk at APCO 2024
Sunday, August 4, at 7 a.m.
Start off your conference experience on the right foot at the APCO 2024 5K run/walk event! This morning activity is a great way to get some fresh air, get moving and get your heart pumping.
There will be recorded timing at this 5K run/walk. The City of Orlando will not be closing roads, so all participants will need to remain on sidewalks and adhere to all pedestrian laws, obey all traffic signals, and look for traffic.
Sign-up Information
Signup is free for all attendees and exhibitors. You must register in advance by August 1 to confirm your spot. We will not be able to accommodate onsite signups. This 5K run/walk is limited to the first 200 registrants.
Race Bib Pickup
Race bib pickup is on Saturday, August 3 between 2pm-6pm at the 5K Run/Walk table in the lobby of the convention center near registration.
Timing
We will have an official recorded time for those looking to make sure they hit their mark, as well as a digital clock at the start/finish line so you can note your finish time. Awards will be given out to the top 3 women and top 3 men to cross the finish line.
Course
The course is 5 kilometers. While it is a flat course, the City of Orlando will not be closing roads, so all runners will need to remain on sidewalks and adhere to all pedestrian laws, obey all traffic signals and look for traffic. Staying on the racecourse will be required.

Wellness in the Emergency Communications Center Professional Development

Health and wellness is both a mental and a physical game. It is important to have healthy telecommunicators that have the awareness and the right tools to live well throughout their career, both on and off the job. This track will cover topics such as creating a wellness program and mental philosophy of the importance of taking care of “you”! Sessions will go into depth on how to incorporate easily maintainable strategies and a positive outlook for the wellness in the workplace. Other topics could include: reducing your liability and turnover due to improved morale as well as the positive and negative effects of health and wellness on the individual, agency and overall performance.

APCO provides a quiet room for all attendees at conference. The quiet room is open Sunday – Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The purpose of this room is provide a quiet place without distractions and noise so we ask that you do not talk on the phone or converse with others in the room. This space will include yoga mats, comfy seating and soft lighting to help provide an escape from the hustle and bustle.
